Kakeru Akemi (暁海カケル Akemi Kakeru) is the deuteragonist and one of the three primary protagonists of Next Generation: Pokémon Fairytales series. A mysterious transfer student in the Pokemon Special Talent Academy and in the same class as the main protagonist, Roku. He is a Level 7 Magician in the Academy, making him the second Junior Student to do so.
He first seen by Roku in a dream of him fighting an angelic-like creature in a darkened landscape of Academy City. The day after the dream, he passes by Roku during a walk to the Academy and later transferred there where he gives Roku ominous warning. He is the current contractor of the Arcanes, Alice the B-Rabbit and Oz the W-Rabbit.

Junction (接合, Setsugō): A unique and Contracter-exclusive Magic Skill; not a magic proper, that makes full use of Kakeru's link with his Arcane, Oz the W-Rabbit. Oz has a special "magic link" with Kakeru, due to the contract he has with Kakeru by the time he was contracted. By synchronizing his magical power frequency with Oz, Kakeru can perform a junction; which merges Oz with him, integrating him within his body. This allows Kakeru to replicate the powers of Oz; filtering out magic (known as drawing) from Oz and storing it ready to be used by Kakeru. This allows Kakeru to possess near superhuman abilities, such as increased speed and strength, as well as being able to use magic. When Oz and Kakeru are merged, two kinds of beings are brought together; giving Kakeru superhuman strength and enhancing his body functions. During a successful merge, striking hair or pupil colour changes become apparent, and it will even change the colour of clothing Kakeru is wearing at the time. Oz can always initiate a telepathic contact with Kakeru from within his body, making it easier for Kakeru to communicate with him.
